Oak and Acorn

oak leaf and acron

Oak Leaf: During the Roman Empire soldiers would receive a crown of woven oak leaves for saving the life of another Roman in battle. Franklin Alliance Church uses the symbol to remind every Christian that we are in a battle for souls; for souls to be saved, sanctified, healed and prepared for the coming King. Paul speaks of a crown of rejoicing for salvaged souls in I Thessalonians 2:19-20. Let us win the crown, or better yet, go into battle seeking and saving the lost in Jesus’ name.

Acorn: The acorn is a symbol of the potential in every believer to become a mighty oak of righteousness. God has given us gifts by His Spirit. It is amazing to think that a mighty oak is within the shell of an acorn. It is even more amazing to see new believers planted, and grow into the strong and glorious oak. The acorn reminds us that we are called, chosen and have a holy destiny beyond our own expectations and that by the power of the Holy Ghost our potential will become real. And just as a seed must fall to the ground and die before it bears much fruit, we too must be willing to sacrifice ourselves in order to see much fruit in ourselves and in the ministry of the church.

The Mighty Oak: I believe that God has spoken to us through the Word that we are be the planting of the Lord and  ”take root below and bear fruit above” as it says in II Kings 19:30. The oak represents resilience and longevity. May we emulate the words of Jeremiah 17:7-8, “But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

Franklin Alliance Church / Oak and Acorn: May we be a church of soul winning and a church of the deeper life. As it says in the Bible, “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and those who wins souls are wise” (Provers 11:30) and “They will be called oaks of righteouness, a planting of the LORD for the display of His splendor” (Isaiah 61:3).
